Chirag Deb

Chirag received his PhD from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2017 where he was awarded the prestigious President’s Graduate Fellowship. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from NIT Trichy where he was awarded the institute gold medal and ‘best outgoing student’ award. He also holds a M.S. (by research) degree in Civil Engineering from IIT Madras. Chirag was a postdoc in ETH Zurich from 2017 to 2021 where he represented ETH and Switzerland in the International Energy Agency’s EBC Annex-71 project. At ETH, Chirag oversaw a range of projects pertaining to energy in buildings and well-being of occupants. He also led the stream on data-driven analytics at the Chair of Architecture and Building Systems. He continues to work in the field of energy in buildings and cities, specifically on data-driven energy modeling. He is an editorial board member of the Frontiers in Built Environment journal and has authored several papers in high-impact journals. One of his papers is featured in the top 1% of all cited papers in engineering as per the Web of Science. Currently, he is an assistant professor in the Centre for Urban Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay. He is also the Principal Investigator of the Data & Energy in Buildings & Cities laboratory (DebCLab) and the receiver of the Young Faculty Award at IIT Bombay.
